This talk features police footage taken from a potential illegal hunt scene, from a case which went to court. In the footage, a witness claims a deer was attacked by hunting dogs but the Surrey Union Hunt claim the deer was injured by barbed wire fencing.

In January 2019, two ecologists, Eleanor and Laura, attempted to become the first researchers to study the behaviour of the titan beetle in the rainforests of French Guiana. The titan beetle (Titanus giganteus) is the largest-bodied beetle in the world and is highly valued in the insect trade.
Despite being worth a lot of money, little is known of the beetle's natural history. Its larvae have never been found and males are much more commonly caught than females. At the end, I briefly review postgraduate qualifications in animal welfare, including the distance-learning University of Winchester MSc Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law, which I established in 2015. On 25th August 2022 we launched our new 'Routledge Handbook of Animal Welfare' at Confer-Karnac Books in London. There were around 40 attendees – a good number of an event of this kind, with some key people present. Speakers were co-editors Profs. Andrew Knight, Clive Phillips and Paula Sparks, and Dr Marc Abraham. Actor Dr Peter Egan was our MC. The event was a huge success and was greatly enjoyed by most.
